Freddie

Freddie – Jack Russell Terrier.
Not one enquiry for this amazing little chap.
( approx 8/9 yo )
Currently in a foster home in Ireland with other dogs.
Freddie is a lively little Jack Russell Terrier who has been in foster care with us for the past two months.
During this time, he has lived in a busy household with young adults coming and going, alongside a large female bull lurcher and a family cat.
Freddie is confident around people and not easily fazed by household activity. He will bark briefly to alert when someone knocks at the door but otherwise greets visitors politely and then settles.
Note **Freddie is not cat-friendly and currently needs to be managed separately from cats, so a cat-free home would be essential.**
He is a very active boy who enjoys being involved in whatever is going on around him.
He loves his walks and generally walks well on the lead. He may occasionally bark at other dogs while out, particularly smaller dogs that are also vocal, though he seems more comfortable around larger dogs.
With appropriate introductions and management, he could benefit from having another canine companion.
He needs to very secure during car journeys as he moves a lot and has actually managed to slip out of his harness in the car with us on 2 occasions. He can be a real wriggle monster !
A crate maybe the answer.
When Freddie first arrived ( and being a typical JRT ), he displayed significant resource guarding behaviour, which led to biting incidents within the household, but thankfully not with the larger dog.
With consistent handling and management, these behaviours have steadily reduced and have not been an issue recently.
As with many dogs, I believe there is a possibility this could resurface temporarily when he transitions to a new home, so adopters will need to be mindful and patient.
Freddie is still a work in progress with his house training, though he has made clear improvements. His new family will need to continue this training with patience and consistency.
At home, once his humans have settled, Freddie is very content to relax with them.
He enjoys snoozing on the sofa or curling up on a lap and is an affectionate, routine-loving little dog.
He chooses to sleep downstairs in his crate and is happily crated at night and when unsupervised, particularly due to the presence of other animals in the home.
He sleeps through the night and will only bark in the morning when he hears people getting up to remind them he’s ready to start the day.
Freddie hasn’t quite learned how to play yet and can be unsure when other dogs initiate play, especially those much larger than him. He can also be a bit of an escapologist and may try to slip out through doors, though his recall is generally good — treats definitely help!
He copes well with being left alone for reasonable periods and has shown no destructive or anxious behaviours when left.
Freddie would thrive in an active home with people who enjoy regular walks and can give him time to run around safely, ideally with access to a garden. He is very food-motivated and can be a little insistent around mealtimes, so boundaries around food will be important.
Overall, Freddie is a confident, affectionate, and adaptable little dog who could suit a wide range of households (*keeping mind my concern raised about a return to resource guarding), provided they are patient with his continued toilet training, mindful around food, and able to meet his exercise needs.
